Clinical area

Targeted temperature management

A portable option for initiating cooling within a clinician-directed post-cardiac-arrest pathway.

CarbonCool® devices are for use by trained medical personnel only.

01 / Care pathway

CarbonCool® in the published care pathway

Emergency department

Initial cooling with combined methods

In the Yap et al. cohort, the Full Body Suit™ with MPads was added to ice packs and cold saline after return of spontaneous circulation.

Intensive care

Transition to powered cooling

The published protocol transitioned patients to powered cooling in intensive care. The study did not test the suit as a standalone pathway.

Throughout care

Separate monitoring

Core temperature and skin condition require active clinical monitoring under the institution's approved protocol and the instructions for use.

02 / Research

Published TTM research

Cooling initiation in a combined hospital protocol.

Yap et al., 2020

In a single-centre pre/post cohort study, median time from return of spontaneous circulation to 34°C was 119 minutes after CarbonCool® was added to a combined cooling protocol, compared with 482 minutes in historical controls.

Survival and neurological outcomes did not differ significantly. Historical controls, missing data and the use of multiple cooling measures limit interpretation and prevent isolating the suit's effect.

03 / Implementation

Planning hospital implementation

Clinical governance

Define patient selection, temperature targets, escalation and transition criteria in the institution’s approved protocol.

Equipment readiness

Freeze MPads according to the instructions for use, then stage the prescribed suit configuration and a separate core-temperature monitor.

Team training

Train staff in application, skin and temperature monitoring, handoff, and integration with other cooling measures.

04 / Before use

Product suitability and safety

Review indications, contraindications, precautions, configuration guidance and market status before adding the system to a clinical pathway.
